OK...What's up 'round here music-wise lately? huh? Well first, have you heard all that CLATTER AND DIN up north in down town Seattle? Since MARTIN SALINAS/guitar/vocals is returning to San Diego, California this month, starts real work on December 28th, STEVE HICKS/drums thought it would be wonderful and arranged to have a CD highlighting Martin/guitar, of course, with Steve BARTLETT ON BASS and our neighbor, STEVE HICKS doin' drums, The recording was created last week end in Seattle. Steve reports all the guys had a great time and CLATTER AND DIN is top of the line. A really cool place to do a recording and there were lots of promises of getting some fun studio work up there too. The guys had a exciting time as I said before, and they noticed that BUMP KITCHEN and THE RANDY OXFORD BAND were both performing in Seattle at THE HIGHWAY 99 BLUES CLUB. Big news from recording artist, and one of WALTER's BIRTHDAY's talented singer/song writers JON BARONI/keys/harp/vocal. Last month KEVIN CHRISTENSEN/drums had his one and only 47th birthday party at THE STONEGATE in Tacoma. Well, we've known Kevin, when they both played with AL EARICK/guitar/vocals and SHERYL CLARK/sax in the band ROAD DAWGS along time ago and there were so many old friends there, Steve had a great time. Thanks Kevin. Just some of the folks that Steve mentioned to me were...AL EARICK/guitar/vocals, who forgot his guitar , but his wife Donna looked great. Cool Donna. JEFF WALLACE/keys was there and CAROL ROSE/ vocals. 'Hi' to you guys. Steve enjoyed playing several times with JERRY MILLER/guitar and also TIM HALL/guitar. Kevin always knew how to put on a party and there lots of cool people there.

Steve went up north of Everett to see his family for a Christmas get-together last week end too. He gave several of his family members copies of the new WALTER's BIRTHDAY CD. One will be sent down to Texas for his younger brother, country singer/song writer RUSSELL BARTLETT. Check brother Russ out HERE. And buy his CDs on CDBaby HERE OK.

OK...Today's Thursday, November 17th ...and I haven't posted for awhile....what's up anyway?
Steve and I've been really busy getting the farm ready for winter etc....you understand what I mean....there's sheep to shear, filling our barn with hay, chicken and rabbit feed...and chopping and stacking wood for our wood stove, then there's harvesting our garden goodies and putting them up for winter too. yum..
Steve'll be rehearsing tonight with the band, WALTER's BIRTHDAY. That's JON BARONI/keys/harp/vocals, SCOTT ERCOLIANI/drums, TOD LEMKUHL/guitar/vocals, with st_robert as sound engineer. Go HERE and HERE.
He's been jammin' with STEVE HICKS/drummer HERE, our neighbor and owner of HOBBY STREET STUDIOS in Yelm, TOD LEMKUHL/guitar/vocals of WALTER's BIRTHDAY, and, MARTIN SALINAS/guitar/vocals of THE MARTIN SALINAS BAND and former owner of LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTERS in McKenna.
TERESA OAKMAN/vocals and the awesome YASMINE ARIEL/vocals HERE are wonderful new for me voices that I've [T. Jan] really enjoyed.
This Saturday night Steve has been invited to Kevin's birthday bash by KEVIN CHRISTENSEN/drums at THE STONEGATE in Tacoma. With TIM HALL/guitar/vocals and JERRY MILLER/guitar/vocals invited too I bet there'll be lots of good music and Steve'll have a real awesome time. I'll stay up to hear his full report when he gets home. Yea!

Just read a really cool rumor on FACEBOOK.....Hey..There might be cupcakes at UNCLE SAM's BAR AND GRILL tonight/Sunday 12/12....MMMM. Oh Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Boy. see ya at 7 pm at UNCLE SAM's for THE SHELLY ELY JAM. Save me a chocolate one. OK Shell? YAY. Shelly Ely always has a sweet jam even without cupcakes! But, now how can any of us stay home tonight with a possibility of more sugar than usual? There's just no way, we can stay away. And, the drummer tonight DYLAN LANNY ENGLAND is also a sweety. With TERRY JAE/bass as icing on our cup'cake' and always an awesome guitarist at THE SHELLY ELY JAM on Pacific each Sunday night. 'Be there or be square'. WOW. Bring your axe have some fun.
THE JERRY MILLER BAND up each Thursday night 7 pm at UNCLE SAM's too. The band members are Jerry Miller/guitar, Denny Foreman/guitar, Dave Erwin/bass, Jeff Wallace/keyboard/violin, Allen Heath/drums, and Russ Harris/congas/harp.

Now, the LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTER's in McKenna. Spoke to the very talented guitarist/owner of LIQUID SOUL a few days ago...MARTIN SALINAS. Yes, there's still an OPEN MIC each Thursday evening at 6 pm to 9 pm. So, come on down. ANDY CARROLL/ guitar/vocals, was in town last Thursday, and came down to play with his friends at Liquid Soul's OPEN MIC. TOD LEMKUHL/ guitar/vocals, MICHAEL HARRISON/drums, and my Steve BARTLETT ON BASS were some of the fine folks that came down to jam too. My Steve said... Amanda, Peggy and even more were there to perform. It was a fun jam.
Last night, WALTER's BIRTHDAY performed at Liquid Soul from 8 pm to 11 pm. It was an very enjoyable evening. ALINE SCHROADER was there to take pictures of JON BARONI and the guys. A video was created and will be done after Christmas by James. Thanks...I'm looking forward to seeing that.
Next Saturday, December 18th, 8 pm, there will be AN OPEN JAM, Electric or Acoustic ...All welcome, bring your axe [instrument] and play at Liquid Soul. Fun. Cool.

Steve went by CLARK's BAR AND GRILL at the Tahoma Valley Golf Course in Yelm a few times this week folks...A Big ZERO, no cars in the parking lot or anything. What happened? Where are those guys? We haven't heard anything for two weeks now. If anyone knows...give me a call and I'll [Jan] post it. So, no music there.

Next...SHELLY ELY's JAM's tonight [Sunday] 10/31 at UNCLE SAM's BAR AND GRILL in Spanaway. Yeah! Music starts around 7 pm gos until 10 pm. She said on FACEBOOK that TERRY JAE/bass and DYLAN LANNY ENGLAND/drums will be there. JHO BLENIS/guitar is a maybe..he was not feeling well eariler this week...[he said on FACEBOOK] and Shell didn't say if he'd be there. Shelly always has great players at her jam. Local Live Music News Report

O.K.,...Lots of things to talk about this time in my local live music news report. First, what is local to me [Jan]. Well, for starts I thought...South Tacoma, Spanaway, Graham, Roy, McKenna, Yelm, Rainier, Tenino, Lacey, Tumwater.... etc.....I will adjust this area as time gos on to fit the great live music reported in the area that we can get to in a reasonable amount of time.

First, In Yelm, THE BLUE BOTTLE CAFE's Farewell closing party was Saturday, Oct. 23rd at 7 pm. We love MICHELLE JONES and her whole family and wish them the best in whatever they do next. From STEVE KLEIN's 'YELM COMMUNITY BLOG' we have learned that The Blue Bottle was bought by a Pizzeria. We'll watch for any updates and new news about this.
Next, CLARK's BAR AND GRILL in Yelm. Steve went by there last night...Monday, Oct. 25th, 'round 7 pm and found no one there! What? So, I called 360/458-3332 this morning...there was zero answer. I'd call CLARK's BAR AND GRILL before leaving home if I were you...I'm sure all is well and they're having a great vacation on some tropical island somewhere warm.
Next, KENNY WILLIAMSON reports that THE SHELLY ELY JAM at UNCLE SAM's BAR AND GRILL went great last Sunday night..Oct. 24th, in Spanaway. Kenny WilliamSon was drumming for DYLAN LANNY ENGLAND, who had the night off. This is always a fun jam folks, with talented musicians. Remember, Sunday night 7 pm be at Uncle Sam's at Shelly's jam for awesome live music. Kenny will keep me updated on where etc. he's playing too... I'll let you all know.

LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTERS in McKenna. On the 16th of this month THE MARTIN SALINAS BAND played at Liquid Soul. Looks like they're playing there again on November 6th at 8 pm. Hope it's a great gig. [confirming the members of this band and will post it as soon as I get this info.]. Usually, but not always, there's a $5.00 cover at Liquid Soul...but, it's well worth that to hear some really fine music. Call...360/400-soul to find out and I'll post all the information I confirm. They are located in McKenna behind BAYDOS at the McKenna 'Y'.

O.K.,well, 'My Dirty Laundry' I've been saving this one for last because it's  difficult to talk about and about me and Steve BARTLETT ON BASS and the band WALTER's BIRTHDAY. that Steve's a member. But, it's  local music news...So, here gos.. Our trusted and very brave friend, SCOTT ERCOLIANI/drummer for WALTER's BIRTHDAY contacted me [Jan]  last week about, in his opinion, my abundance of postings about WALTER's BIRTHDAY online. I realized that he brought up some good points, that I'd never thought of. [view Emails HERE and HERE]. I HAD spent a hole lot of time posting. But, I thought that's what everyone wanted. WHOOPS. So, in my willingness to immediately comply...I deleted, blocked or erased all the posts I could find as fast as possible about WALTER's BIRTHDAY and started to cry....then waited to know what to do next. It didn't take long...in about 20 minutes. My hero, MARTIN SALINAS of Liquid Soul Coffee Roasters noticed and called  Scott Ercoliani...'was the recently booked WALTER's BIRTHDAY in Concert on Saturday, November 13th 8 pm canceled?' NO!! The gig has NOT been canceled....... just Jan's posts.  [NOTE: I have recently re-posted an edited copy of that gig's announcement online....it's gonna be fantastic. [my... 'JAN's OPINION!!]. To avoid any further confusion, I decided to post on BARTLETT ON BASS, NIGHT ROSE, FACEBOOK and ONYXX [R]  web sites and elsewhere this 'FYI..NOTICE: .. WHAT's HAPPENING?...My Gig Report......Local Area Live Music Events

Well, this has been an eventful week for local music in my Yelm home and the surrounding areas.

1. First, the sad music news reported on 10/10 by Michael Joseph, a farewell party will be held at THE BLUE BOTTLE in Yelm on 10/23. There has been no new postings on THE BLUE BOTTLE CAFE for quite awhile. The Blue Bottle's address is 309 Yelm Ave East, phone is 360/458-4611. So, now I've had the news from owner Michele Jones, I was wishing this news was not true. But, it's true.
2. Kenny WilliamSon contacted me several times this week, telling me that he or his band 'The Kenny WilliamSon Band' maybe playing at CLARK's BAR AND GRILL at the Tehoma Golf Course in Yelm on 10/25. [NOTE:Just in: Sorry to say Kenny will NOT be at Clark's on the 25th] Address 15425 Moseman Ave. S.W. ,phone 360/458-3332. The details are being worked out with Clark's owner Steve....10/15--New News: Kenny will NOT be playing at Clark's this Saturday, 10/16, or 10/25th as he reported eariler. But good news.... he'll be at UNCLE SAM's  that's 7 pm, in Spanaway on 10/24, filling in for drummer Dylan Lanny England, so go to Uncle Sam's to enjoy Kenny's great drumming, we'll miss you in Yelm this week Kenny. Have a great day off Dylan. We love your drumming too Dylan.
3. Musician, Eric Delome of BLUE WAVE' reports on FACEBOOK that his wonderful birthday party was due all to the kindness of Martin and Barb Salinas.."THANKS FOR YOUR LOVE and All The Wonderful Music around You. The music is the sound of The LIFE. I WISH YOU SUCCES and JOY. YOURS Eric" . 'Happy Birthday, Eric!'. And, thank you Martin and Barb, owners of LIQUID SOUL.
Sounds like Eric had a great time last week  at  LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTERS. So, THE MARTIN SALINAS BAND  [I am checking on this bands' members.. Martin, Eric and  more...have sent notes to Eric, Martin and Barb...sure I'll hear before Saturday, 10/16..and I will post it].The Martin Salinas Band will be playing this Saturday at LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTERS. The band was confirmed on Martin and Barb's Liquid Soul Web Site. and Martin's FACEBOOK page too, but, not members of the band. Liquid Soul does not say if there will be a cover or cake, but it's only a $5.00 cover, if there is any., so no problem. Music starts at 8pm this Saturday, 10/16 at Liquid Soul. NOTE: Saturday,10/16.. Sadly, I'm unable to find out/confirm band members...please call Liquid Soul for information. Address and phone above. Oh, I almost forgot, Liquid Soul has an open mic tonight ..Thursday at 6 pm. So, musicians bring your axe. Let's keep live music happening in this area.
4. Lot's happening at UNCLE SAM's BAR AND GRILL in Spanaway this week. Last Sunday, 10/10 Shelly Ely hosted a Benefit for Craig and Kathy at Uncle Sam's. Shelly reports it was very sucessful. Great. We really enjoy Uncle Sam's Bar and Grill. Lots of musicians, playing every week. Address: 16003 Pacific Ave. Spanaway WA. 253-507-7808.  Music was all day long and several bands played last Sunday. Wish we could have been there. Soon.
The famous guitarist, JERRY MILLER [Moby Grape] plays every Thursday night at 7 pm at Uncle Sam's.... That's TONIGHT! What a treat, and, THE SHELLY ELY JAM starts at 7 pm every Sunday night.  Next jam this Sunday 10/17. With SHELLY ELY/vocals and DYLAN LANNY ENGLAND/drummer and  more folks too. They both keep me updated on FACEBOOK. They're  fantastic and both are at Uncle Sam's each Sunday. Wow. Get your axe, go to Uncle Sam's Bar And Grill 7 pm to 10ish on Sundays and have a really good time with other very talented musicians.
