Last night Craig called...he needed a band on Saturday, January 7th...could WALTER's BIRTHDAY be in Spanaway at UNCLE SAM's American Bar and GRILL at 8:30 pm to play? Yep! Sure thing Craig.... Steve called all the guys. Yep, they were all available and ready...cool. SCOTT ERCOLIANI/drummer for WALTER's BIRTHDAY and talented owner of REAL TO REEL MEDIA, go HERE created some beautiful posters for Craig and UNCLE SAM's to post. Steve will deliver them, and everyone's all set. This will be lots of fun.







You all know the bluzzzz queen of the Pacific Northwest SHELLY ELY has a fantastic jam goin'on there every Sunday night at UNCLE SAM's with her great crew. It's really cool, and JERRY MILLER performs there every Thursday evening with his group too too, THE MARTIN SALINAS BAND with MARTIN SALINAS/guitar/vocals, STEVE HICKS/drums, and my Steve BARTLETT ON BASS has played there many times too, and there's even more.... music every night of the week.... OK...What's up 'round here music-wise lately? huh? Well first, have you heard all that CLATTER AND DIN up north in down town Seattle? Since MARTIN SALINAS/guitar/vocals is returning to San Diego, California this month, starts real work on December 28th, STEVE HICKS/drums thought it would be wonderful and arranged to have a CD highlighting Martin/guitar, of course, with Steve BARTLETT ON BASS and our neighbor, STEVE HICKS doin' drums, The recording was created last week end in Seattle. Steve reports all the guys had a great time and CLATTER AND DIN is top of the line. A really cool place to do a recording and there were lots of promises of getting some fun studio work up there too. The guys had a exciting time as I said before, and they noticed that BUMP KITCHEN and THE RANDY OXFORD BAND were both performing in Seattle at THE HIGHWAY 99 BLUES CLUB. Big news from recording artist, and one of WALTER's BIRTHDAY's talented singer/song writers JON BARONI/keys/harp/vocal. Last month KEVIN CHRISTENSEN/drums had his one and only 47th birthday party at THE STONEGATE in Tacoma. Well, we've known Kevin, when they both played with AL EARICK/guitar/vocals and SHERYL CLARK/sax in the band ROAD DAWGS along time ago and there were so many old friends there, Steve had a great time. Thanks Kevin. Just some of the folks that Steve mentioned to me were...AL EARICK/guitar/vocals, who forgot his guitar , but his wife Donna looked great. Cool Donna. JEFF WALLACE/keys was there and CAROL ROSE/ vocals. 'Hi' to you guys. Steve enjoyed playing several times with JERRY MILLER/guitar and also TIM HALL/guitar. Kevin always knew how to put on a party and there lots of cool people there.

Steve went up north of Everett to see his family for a Christmas get-together last week end too. He gave several of his family members copies of the new WALTER's BIRTHDAY CD. One will be sent down to Texas for his younger brother, country singer/song writer RUSSELL BARTLETT. Check brother Russ out HERE. And buy his CDs on CDBaby HERE OK.

OK...Today's Thursday, November 17th ...and I haven't posted for awhile....what's up anyway?
Steve and I've been really busy getting the farm ready for winter etc....you understand what I mean....there's sheep to shear, filling our barn with hay, chicken and rabbit feed...and chopping and stacking wood for our wood stove, then there's harvesting our garden goodies and putting them up for winter too. yum..
Steve'll be rehearsing tonight with the band, WALTER's BIRTHDAY. That's JON BARONI/keys/harp/vocals, SCOTT ERCOLIANI/drums, TOD LEMKUHL/guitar/vocals, with st_robert as sound engineer. Go HERE and HERE.
He's been jammin' with STEVE HICKS/drummer HERE, our neighbor and owner of HOBBY STREET STUDIOS in Yelm, TOD LEMKUHL/guitar/vocals of WALTER's BIRTHDAY, and, MARTIN SALINAS/guitar/vocals of THE MARTIN SALINAS BAND and former owner of LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTERS in McKenna.
TERESA OAKMAN/vocals and the awesome YASMINE ARIEL/vocals HERE are wonderful new for me voices that I've [T. Jan] really enjoyed.
This Saturday night Steve has been invited to Kevin's birthday bash by KEVIN CHRISTENSEN/drums at THE STONEGATE in Tacoma. With TIM HALL/guitar/vocals and JERRY MILLER/guitar/vocals invited too I bet there'll be lots of good music and Steve'll have a real awesome time. OK, OK,.....we're ALL ready for this....The WALTER's BIRTHDAY CD RELEASE PARTY on Friday, August 26th, at THE SPIRAL CAFE ARTS and WELLNESS CENTER in Yelm.

This new CD is awesome and a keeper, it's called just 'WALTER's BIRTHDAY' and that says it ALL....Cool, all music especially written by these very talented musicans.. AND, the CD will be available, of course, at this very special event. So, none of us want to miss this fun night of live music in Yelm. st_robert will be the sound engineer for the night and recording the evening too. So, come early so you won't miss a thing.

It all begins at 8:30 with a special guest performer...to warm us all up and get our dancing feet wet...THEN...at 9 pm,...the WALTER's BIRTHDAY band will begin and perform all of the new CD tunes along with all our favorite WALTER's BIRTHDAY tunes until 12 midnight. There's only a $10.00 cover for this awesome night.

Yesterday,Saturday, 2/5 Sandy McCaully was remembered at the Ording Eagles. He passed on 1/21/11. There was a jam/wake, Shelly Ely called us and let us know....'A Good-bye Sandy'...I have a photo posted of Sandy McCaully, that I found on FACEBOOK by ERIC ANDERSSON. I remember him fondy...a kind, thoughtful music loving man with a gentle smile. Steve and I went to his home in Ording, Washington and jammed with him and his friends. He called Steve several times to chat music. We first met him at LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTERs. 'Round 2008.

We were unable to go yesterday...no transportation. Shell called an offered to loan Steve her car. Thanks Shelly, sadly.... Steve could not get a ride to Shelly's in Spanaway to pick up her car and get out to Ording. 'We thought of you often yesterday Sandy...will always think of you with love'. Jan and Steve.

LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTERs in McKenna have some cool things happening this week. It's always DAVID WAYNE hosting AN OPEN MIC each Thursday...so, there's a cool open mic this Thursday night, beginning at 6 pm., gos 'til 9. You can count on that.
AND, I'm really jazzed about next Friday night, February 11th at 8 pm. My hubby, and excellent bass-guy...STEVE BARTLETT/BARTLETT ON BASS will be performing again in the band WALTERs BIRTHDAY. They had a rehearsal last night...Steve got home later than usual...really excited, he had forgotten the time, they ALL had...they were all enjoying the tunes so much...'we sounded so good', he said. Mike Karnes, has been Steve's buddy and is a long-time friend from college, has been teaching music for many years in the Port Orchard area, will give the guitar instruction. Steve will give the bass instruction. There's a world-class vocalist too. Cool I wanna go. I'll keep everyone updated. OK?

First things First...I always say....And, It's love EVERYWHERE I look...well, that's just plain cool, now isn't it? Today, Sunday, 12/5... BLUEWAVE's guitar/vocals/composer Eric Delome marries Virginia Cloverdale. My Steve's a guest at the wedding as I write this. Congratulations Eric and Virginia. A few weeks ago, Former BLUE BOTTLE owner, Michelle Jones married Flemming Olsen. Now, that's cool too. Tomorrow is ,12/6, our [Steve and Jan] wedding anniversary, 6 whole years! YAY. And, what really touches my heart and brings a tear to my eye...my dear 34 year old son, Martin, has fallen in love with a lovely, beautiful lady and has told me, he will ask her to marry him on Christmas. I've never seen him So Happy...he's walking on air. Go Martin. I love you both. Mom and Steve.

YELM SENIOR CENTER offers really cool lunches on week days at for senior's and disabled in the area. At a very reasonable price too. I [Jan] was in the STAR's Program ...Day Care for Adults...offered by the Lacey Senior Center a few years ago, it was lots of fun. Yelm offered that too. First, there were locked doors on CLARK's BAR AND GRILL this week when Steve checked. No Live music there. The Tahoma Valley Golf Course was open and looked like business as usual. We'll keep checking for you.

JOHN 'SCOOCH' CUGNO in his 'JOHN 'SCOOCH' CUGNO TRIO' played yesterday, Saturday, November 6th, at a new venue... THE GOVERNOR's GRILL in Olympia. If you like blues, this maybe your ticket. Olympia's easy to get to. THE GOVERNOR's GRILL is located at 621 Capitol Way So., downtown Oly. Check it out. Members of Scooch's band are .....[ Brad Gould/harmonica and Gary Elsey/bass-j]. On Friday night, they finished the first stage of recording and will continue in a couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to this CD! No name has been chosen yet. I'll let you know more when I do. OK?

WHAT's HAPPENING?...My Gig Report......Local Area Live Music Events

Well, this has been an eventful week for local music in my Yelm home and the surrounding areas.

1. First, the sad music news reported on 10/10 by Michael Joseph, a farewell party will be held at THE BLUE BOTTLE in Yelm on 10/23. There has been no new postings on THE BLUE BOTTLE CAFE for quite awhile. The Blue Bottle's address is 309 Yelm Ave East, phone is 360/458-4611. So, now I've had the news from owner Michele Jones, I was wishing this news was not true. But, it's true.
2. Kenny WilliamSon contacted me several times this week, telling me that he or his band 'The Kenny WilliamSon Band' maybe playing at CLARK's BAR AND GRILL at the Tehoma Golf Course in Yelm on 10/25. [NOTE:Just in: Sorry to say Kenny will NOT be at Clark's on the 25th] Address 15425 Moseman Ave. S.W. ,phone 360/458-3332. The details are being worked out with Clark's owner Steve....10/15--New News: Kenny will NOT be playing at Clark's this Saturday, 10/16, or 10/25th as he reported eariler. But good news.... he'll be at UNCLE SAM's  that's 7 pm, in Spanaway on 10/24, filling in for drummer Dylan Lanny England, so go to Uncle Sam's to enjoy Kenny's great drumming, we'll miss you in Yelm this week Kenny. Have a great day off Dylan. We love your drumming too Dylan.
3. Musician, Eric Delome of BLUE WAVE' reports on FACEBOOK that his wonderful birthday party was due all to the kindness of Martin and Barb Salinas.."THANKS FOR YOUR LOVE and All The Wonderful Music around You. The music is the sound of The LIFE. I WISH YOU SUCCES and JOY. YOURS Eric" . 'Happy Birthday, Eric!'. And, thank you Martin and Barb, owners of LIQUID SOUL.
Sounds like Eric had a great time last week  at  LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTERS. There was birthday cake [Barb's a great cook], a great jam with no cover too.  Cool. Address 35025 90th Roy, Wa....Where...Behind BAYDOS at the McKenna 'Y'. Phone 360/400-soul. This info. was found online on both MARTIN SALINAS and ERIC DELOME FACEBOOK  pages. "There were some folks with standing room only" states Martin, so Martin wants to do it again! Yay Martin!
So, THE MARTIN SALINAS BAND  [I am checking on this bands' members.. Martin, Eric and  more...have sent notes to Eric, Martin and Barb...sure I'll hear before Saturday, 10/16..and I will post it].The Martin Salinas Band will be playing this Saturday at LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTERS. The band was confirmed on Martin and Barb's Liquid Soul Web Site. and Martin's FACEBOOK page too, but, not members of the band. Liquid Soul does not say if there will be a cover or cake, but it's only a $5.00 cover, if there is any., so no problem. Music starts at 8pm this Saturday, 10/16 at Liquid Soul. NOTE: Saturday,10/16.. Sadly, I'm unable to find out/confirm band members...please call Liquid Soul for information. Address and phone above. Oh, I almost forgot, Liquid Soul has an open mic tonight ..Thursday at 6 pm. So, musicians bring your axe. Let's keep live music happening in this area.
4. Lot's happening at UNCLE SAM's BAR AND GRILL in Spanaway this week. Last Sunday, 10/10 Shelly Ely hosted a Benefit for Craig and Kathy at Uncle Sam's. Shelly reports it was very sucessful. Great. We really enjoy Uncle Sam's Bar and Grill. Lots of musicians, playing every week. Address: 16003 Pacific Ave. Spanaway WA. 253-507-7808.  Music was all day long and several bands played last Sunday. Wish we could have been there. Soon.
The famous guitarist, JERRY MILLER [Moby Grape] plays every Thursday night at 7 pm at Uncle Sam's.... That's TONIGHT! What a treat, and, THE SHELLY ELY JAM starts at 7 pm every Sunday night.  Next jam this Sunday 10/17. With SHELLY ELY/vocals and DYLAN LANNY ENGLAND/drummer and  more folks too. They both keep me updated on FACEBOOK. They're  fantastic and both are at Uncle Sam's each Sunday. Wow. Get your axe, go to Uncle Sam's Bar And Grill 7 pm to 10ish on Sundays and have a really good time with other very talented musicians.
6. WILLOUGHBY's RESTAURANT And LOUNGE in Yelm have nothing new to report.
