Nice quiet, relaxing Sunday after Christmas, for my report. Yawn, Stretch, Burp...Whoops...parden me. Hope everyone had a great Holiday yesterday, like we did and ALL of us are rested up and ready to boogie. Let's see what happened last week and what's happening this week in live music.. OK?

Tonight, Sunday 12/26 Shelly Ely's at UNCLE SAM's BAR AND GRILL in Spanaway. Thanks Shell. Love that girl. Some of the best Bluzzzz in the area, can be heard each week at UNCLE SAM's with Shelly Ely. THE SHELLY ELY JAM's tonight, starts around 7 pm. AND, No Shell, you'll never be an 'old' person. None of us will. There'll be DYLAN LANNY ENGLAND on drums, TERRY JAE/bass. Tuesday night, 12/21 STEVE BARTLETT with multi-talented Guitarist/vocalist TOD LEMKUHL were honored to perform for the YELM FOOD CO-OP Private Holiday Pot-Luck. Reminds me [Jan] of the good ol' 'ME AND MY UNCLE' Gigs of a couple years back. There was lots of good food, music and dancing. Live music makes any event extra special. TAMBORINE BORELLI contacted the band Steve plays in. She's having a BARE BONES BASH on 1/07/11 at her SPIRAL CAFE ART AND WELL BEING STUDIO, downtown Yelm. at 7 pm. It's a fund -raiser with a $5.00 donation for the fund-raiser. No live music this week.
The rest of our week was quiet. We got Christmas greetings from some of our our music family Kenny WilliamSon/drummer, Violenist Terra Jean Chambers and her hubby Archie, Tamborine Borelli/vocalist, Jon Baroni/keys/vocals, Tod Lemkuhl/guitar/vocals, Scott Erconliani/drums, and more.... and our families too.
We had a wonderful Christmas day with Steve's son, JAMES AND JESSICA. My son [Jan] MARTIN BARELA called from Shanghai...his now wife-to-be said 'yes' on Christmas day...Welcome ROSE to our family. Jan

Just read a really cool rumor on FACEBOOK.....Hey..There might be cupcakes at UNCLE SAM's BAR AND GRILL tonight/Sunday 12/12....MMMM. Oh Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Boy. see ya at 7 pm at UNCLE SAM's for THE SHELLY ELY JAM. Save me a chocolate one. OK Shell? YAY. Shelly Ely always has a sweet jam even without cupcakes! But, now how can any of us stay home tonight with a possibility of more sugar than usual? There's just no way, we can stay away. And, the drummer tonight DYLAN LANNY ENGLAND is also a sweety. With TERRY JAE/bass as icing on our cup'cake' and always an awesome guitarist at THE SHELLY ELY JAM on Pacific each Sunday night. 'Be there or be square'. WOW. Bring your axe have some fun.

Now, the LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTER's in McKenna. Spoke to the very talented guitarist/owner of LIQUID SOUL a few days ago...MARTIN SALINAS. Yes, there's still an OPEN MIC each Thursday evening at 6 pm to 9 pm. So, come on down. ANDY CARROLL/ guitar/vocals, was in town last Thursday, and came down to play with his friends at Liquid Soul's OPEN MIC. TOD LEMKUHL/ guitar/vocals, MICHAEL HARRISON/drums, and my Steve BARTLETT ON BASS were some of the fine folks that came down to jam too. My Steve said... Amanda, Peggy and even more were there to perform. It was a fun jam.
Last night, WALTER's BIRTHDAY performed at Liquid Soul from 8 pm to 11 pm. It was an very enjoyable evening. ALINE SCHROADER was there to take pictures of JON BARONI and the guys. A video was created and will be done after Christmas by James. Thanks...I'm looking forward to seeing that.
Next Saturday, December 18th, 8 pm, there will be AN OPEN JAM, Electric or Acoustic ...All welcome, bring your axe [instrument] and play at Liquid Soul. Fun. Cool.

First things First...I always say....And, It's love EVERYWHERE I look...well, that's just plain cool, now isn't it? Today, Sunday, 12/5... BLUEWAVE's guitar/vocals/composer Eric Delome marries Virginia Cloverdale. My Steve's a guest at the wedding as I write this. Congratulations Eric and Virginia. A few weeks ago, Former BLUE BOTTLE owner, Michelle Jones married Flemming Olsen. Now, that's cool too. Tomorrow is ,12/6, our [Steve and Jan] wedding anniversary, 6 whole years! YAY. And, what really touches my heart and brings a tear to my eye...my dear 34 year old son, Martin, has fallen in love with a lovely, beautiful lady and has told me, he will ask her to marry him on Christmas. I've never seen him So Happy...he's walking on air. Go Martin. I love you both. Mom and Steve.

I [Jan] was in the STAR's Program ...Day Care for Adults...offered by the Lacey Senior Center a few years ago, it was lots of fun. Yelm offered that too. A new week.. music news and a change/attitute. Let's see what's happening for live music in the area...shall we?

UNCLE SAM's BAR AND GRILL in Spanaway. Of course, there's THE SHELLY ELY JAM tonight...always Sunday night's around 7 pm. Tonight, Shell has a great guest line up with my old dear friend Sheryl Clark/sax from Steve's 'ROAD DAWG' days, and there's also Laurie Johnson/vocals/harp the fearless leader of the band, 'CARELESS HUNTER' and Gary Crooks/guitar. This will be fantastic night to show up at UNCLE SAM's folks. Wish I could make it! Hope soon. I saw this, this morning on FACEBOOK from Shelly's page. I'm guessing, there will be Shell's regulars, DYLAN LANNY ENGLAND/drums TERRY JAE/bass too tonight, but it has not been confirmed...253-507-7808....if you need more information about this band OK? There are tacos and a grill at UNCLE SAM's. So, why not get a bite to eat.
Last night, Shelly Ely hosted the 2nd Anniversity Customer Appreciation night at UNCLE SAM's. Hope it went well. Nothing's posted that I have found.

Oh my Goodness....Are you seeing a pattern forming here? Well, here I go again...speaking my mind. Let's hope it doesn't get me into too much trouble. Now, this how I feel today...perhaps it will past...hope so, but, maybe not. Here we go...let's explore these ideas for a moment.
Just why am I doing this? huh? Well, yes, I was once a musician, and, I love my husband and see his awesome musical talent...of course, AND, I see all the work it takes him and his friends to be world class musicians...lots of work, lots of time..AND, usually really lousey pay. Many musicians make less than $10.00 a hour...way less, and have a couple of gigs a month, if they're lucky. Most have full-time 'Day Jobs' too...just to survive. When the economy gos down...folks stay at home more. The club owners' feel it and have to make a living too. Live music is usually one of the first things to go, jams, open mics, and karaoke take over where once musicians performed....then, as it gets worse, the clubs' start shutting down, slowly one by one by one.
All this genus, awesome musical talent...just waiting, unused, waiting to uplift and inspire our world, making this a better place. I [Jan] have reported the music news in Western Washington since 2006, posting over 1300 news items. Hoping that BARTLETT ON BASS would help local musicians link up with lovers of music and we'd all benefit and prosper. But, We've been misunderstood, and haven't done a very good job really. Been too polite, too timid and unassuming. Along, with my crumbing physical appearance [Jan] and Steve's innocent eagerness to please...have been seen by others as neediness and unworthiness.....Well, no more....we are now much older and wiser. It was a wonderful journey. Thank you for being a part of our jouney.
I [Jan] will continue loving live music, and continue to post when there's things to report and people who want to read about them. Steve's upcoming CD with the band he's in is exciting! But, to say...no live music to report over and over and over...is just silly, isn't it?

This is a great jam, with a fantastic group of folks hosting the event each Sunday night. There's, of course, Shelly Ely OR MS. BLUZZZZZ herself...And, DYLAN LANNY ENGLAND on drums. There's TERRY JAE/bass and an assortment of world class guitarists....like perhaps JHO BLENIS, JERRY MILLER, or MARTIN SALINAS. Go see who it'll be tonight. It's always fun. I've had reports of good tacos at UNCLE SAM's too. Check this out. AND, Saturday, November 27th , Shelly hosts a Customer Appreciation Night @ Uncle Sam's 2nd Anniversary Party....Oh Boy...that'll be fun.
This Tuesday night, 11/23, VICIOUS PARTNERS hosts a country jam at UNCLE SAM's. Start time 8 pm. All you country people...this is the place to be on Tuesday night.
I'll be calling and checking, but Thanksgiving being this Thursday, I'm not sure if the JERRY MILLER BAND will be at UNCLE SAM's this week. If they play this Thursday, They start at 7 pm. Well, I know THE MANDOLIN CAFE in Tacoma is a little way outside our area, but not much, AND, my Steve's played there several times over the years AND, I love it. There's unique delicious sandwiches, soups, beer, wine and fresh roasted coffee. They have a relaxed atmosphere, and an artist's gallery...which I really enjoyed. Music several nights a week. Well, This is what I read on FACEBOOK this morning from RUSS HARRIS. " I know all talented musicians I have as friends on the network and this is an open invite to The Mandolin Cafe 3923 South 12th Street, Tacoma Consider this an open invitation to come and perform beginning tonight and through possibly through next couple of months sunday nights at 7 PM Denny Foreman will facilitate". My Steve BARTLETT ON BASS reports planning to do some recording tomorrow, Monday, 11/22 at 9 am., with another member of this fantastic band he's with. They're starting the second stage of the recording process used in creating a fine musical CD.
Steve went jamming last night at LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTERS. Even though he got there after 9 pm. it was great, he had one of Martin's wonderful coffees, enjoyed hearing the other musicians play and got to play a few tunes himself too.

NOW, Next...Number two....Let's go to UNCLE SAM's BAR AND GRILL in Spanaway. OK? Dependable, SHELLY ELY JAM is on TONIGHT...Sunday Nov. 14th...7 pm. I see DYLAN LANNY ENGLAND will be on the drums, with Shell's powerful vocals and I bet, TERRY JAE/bass AND who's on guitar? Perhaps Jho or Jerry? Shelly didn't say....it'll be a great line up...always is. I recommend the SHELLY ELY JAM on Sundays at UNCLE SAM's. They're on Pacific Ave in Spanaway.

My STEVE BARTLETT was too busy this week to check out new places to hear some great live music in the area. It's getting kinda nippy outside...he had to chop and collect some firewood. Rehearsal was on Wednesday with the band. He had a great time too. Cool. The LIQUID SOUL /WALTER's BIRTHDAY Gig last night [Nov. 13th] was fantastic...a good crowd reported Steve.

JOHN 'SCOOCH' CUGNO in his 'JOHN 'SCOOCH' CUGNO TRIO' played yesterday, Saturday, November 6th, at a new venue... THE GOVERNOR's GRILL in Olympia. If you like blues, this maybe your ticket. Olympia's easy to get to. THE GOVERNOR's GRILL is located at 621 Capitol Way So., downtown Oly. Check it out. Members of Scooch's band are .....[ Brad Gould/harmonica and Gary Elsey/bass-j]. NOTE from Scooch.."Music goes from 6:30-9:30. Great affordable food. This is a "supper club" experience right here in Olympia."

I'm sure THE SHELLY ELY JAM went well last Sunday. Shell and her guys host a fun jam each Sunday night at UNCLE SAM's BAR AND GRILL in Spanaway on Pacific. About 7 pm be at UNCLE SAM's, the jam goes til about 10 pm. Shelly has many top musicians in the area play with her each Sunday. It's alway fantastic. 'Great tacos' too, reports JEFF AND KATHY WALLACE. Have a bite to eat before or during the music. AND, bring your axe.

Now for, LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTER's in McKenna. Steve said the Thursday night OPEN MIC looked like it was booming last Thursday. A full parking lot and lots of folks keeps these wonderful venues alive people. Yay! All levels of musicians are welcome each Thursday 6 pm at LIQUID SOUL.
THE MARTIN SALINAS BAND played at LIQUID SOUL last night...hope it went fine. Have not seen a word on FACEBOOK, newspaper or anywhere. Will post when I've found any info. I do not know the members of this band yet.

STEVE BARTLETT, BARTLETT ON BASS, my husband, has been recording this past week with the band he's with. Everything's been going well. On Friday night, they finished the first stage of recording and will continue in a couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to this CD! No name has been chosen yet. I'll let you know more when I do. OK?

Local Live Music News Report

O.K.,...Lots of things to talk about this time in my local live music news report. First, what is local to me [Jan]. Well, for starts I thought...South Tacoma, Spanaway, Graham, Roy, McKenna, Yelm, Rainier, Tenino, Lacey, Tumwater.... etc.....I will adjust this area as time gos on to fit the great live music reported in the area that we can get to in a reasonable amount of time.

First, In Yelm, THE BLUE BOTTLE CAFE's Farewell closing party was Saturday, Oct. 23rd at 7 pm. We love MICHELLE JONES and her whole family and wish them the best in whatever they do next. From STEVE KLEIN's 'YELM COMMUNITY BLOG' we have learned that The Blue Bottle was bought by a Pizzeria. We'll watch for any updates and new news about this.
Next, CLARK's BAR AND GRILL in Yelm. Steve went by there last night...Monday, Oct. 25th, 'round 7 pm and found no one there! What? So, I called 360/458-3332 this morning...there was zero answer. I'd call CLARK's BAR AND GRILL before leaving home if I were you...I'm sure all is well and they're having a great vacation on some tropical island somewhere warm.
Next, KENNY WILLIAMSON reports that THE SHELLY ELY JAM at UNCLE SAM's BAR AND GRILL went great last Sunday night..Oct. 24th, in Spanaway. Kenny WilliamSon was drumming for DYLAN LANNY ENGLAND, who had the night off. This is always a fun jam folks, with talented musicians. Remember, Sunday night 7 pm be at Uncle Sam's at Shelly's jam for awesome live music. Kenny will keep me updated on where etc. he's playing too... I'll let you all know.

LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTERS in McKenna. On the 16th of this month THE MARTIN SALINAS BAND played at Liquid Soul. Looks like they're playing there again on November 6th at 8 pm. Hope it's a great gig. [confirming the members of this band and will post it as soon as I get this info.]. Usually, but not always, there's a $5.00 cover at Liquid Soul...but, it's well worth that to hear some really fine music. Call...360/400-soul to find out and I'll post all the information I confirm. They are located in McKenna behind BAYDOS at the McKenna 'Y'.

O.K.,well, 'My Dirty Laundry' I've been saving this one for last because it's  difficult to talk about and about me and Steve BARTLETT ON BASS and the band WALTER's BIRTHDAY. that Steve's a member. But, it's  local music news...So, here gos.. Our trusted and very brave friend, SCOTT ERCOLIANI/drummer for WALTER's BIRTHDAY contacted me [Jan]  last week about, in his opinion, my abundance of postings about WALTER's BIRTHDAY online. I realized that he brought up some good points, that I'd never thought of. [view Emails HERE and HERE]. I HAD spent a hole lot of time posting. But, I thought that's what everyone wanted. WHOOPS. So, in my willingness to immediately comply...I deleted, blocked or erased all the posts I could find as fast as possible about WALTER's BIRTHDAY and started to cry....then waited to know what to do next. It didn't take long...in about 20 minutes. My hero, MARTIN SALINAS of Liquid Soul Coffee Roasters noticed and called  Scott Ercoliani...'was the recently booked WALTER's BIRTHDAY in Concert on Saturday, November 13th 8 pm canceled?' NO!! The gig has NOT been canceled....... just Jan's posts.  [NOTE: I have recently re-posted an edited copy of that gig's announcement online....it's gonna be fantastic. [my... 'JAN's OPINION!!]. Well, this has been an eventful week for local music in my Yelm home and the surrounding areas.

1. First, the sad music news reported on 10/10 by Michael Joseph, a farewell party will be held at THE BLUE BOTTLE in Yelm on 10/23. There has been no new postings on THE BLUE BOTTLE CAFE for quite awhile. The Blue Bottle's address is 309 Yelm Ave East, phone is 360/458-4611. So, now I've had the news from owner Michele Jones, I was wishing this news was not true. But, it's true.
2. Kenny WilliamSon contacted me several times this week, telling me that he or his band 'The Kenny WilliamSon Band' maybe playing at CLARK's BAR AND GRILL at the Tehoma Golf Course in Yelm on 10/25. [NOTE:Just in: Sorry to say Kenny will NOT be at Clark's on the 25th] Address 15425 Moseman Ave. S.W. ,phone 360/458-3332. The details are being worked out with Clark's owner Steve....10/15--New News: Kenny will NOT be playing at Clark's this Saturday, 10/16, or 10/25th as he reported eariler. But good news.... he'll be at UNCLE SAM's  that's 7 pm, in Spanaway on 10/24, filling in for drummer Dylan Lanny England, so go to Uncle Sam's to enjoy Kenny's great drumming, we'll miss you in Yelm this week Kenny. Musician, Eric Delome of BLUE WAVE' reports on FACEBOOK that his wonderful birthday party was due all to the kindness of Martin and Barb Salinas.."THANKS FOR YOUR LOVE and All The Wonderful Music around You. The music is the sound of The LIFE. I WISH YOU SUCCES and JOY. YOURS Eric" . 'Happy Birthday, Eric!'. And, thank you Martin and Barb, owners of LIQUID SOUL.

So, THE MARTIN SALINAS BAND  [I am checking on this bands' members.. Martin, Eric and  more...have sent notes to Eric, Martin and Barb...sure I'll hear before Saturday, 10/16..and I will post it].The Martin Salinas Band will be playing this Saturday at LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTERS. The band was confirmed on Martin and Barb's Liquid Soul Web Site. and Martin's FACEBOOK page too, but, not members of the band. Liquid Soul does not say if there will be a cover or cake, but it's only a $5.00 cover, if there is any., so no problem. Music starts at 8pm this Saturday, 10/16 at Liquid Soul. NOTE: Saturday,10/16.. Sadly, I'm unable to find out/confirm band members...please call Liquid Soul for information. Address and phone above. Oh, I almost forgot, Liquid Soul has an open mic tonight ..Thursday at 6 pm. So, musicians bring your axe. Let's keep live music happening in this area.
4. Lot's happening at UNCLE SAM's BAR AND GRILL in Spanaway this week. Last Sunday, 10/10 Shelly Ely hosted a Benefit for Craig and Kathy at Uncle Sam's. Shelly reports it was very sucessful. Great. We really enjoy Uncle Sam's Bar and Grill. Lots of musicians, playing every week. Address: 16003 Pacific Ave. Spanaway WA. 253-507-7808.  Music was all day long and several bands played last Sunday. Wish we could have been there. Soon.
The famous guitarist, JERRY MILLER [Moby Grape] plays every Thursday night at 7 pm at Uncle Sam's.... That's TONIGHT! What a treat, and, THE SHELLY ELY JAM starts at 7 pm every Sunday night.  Next jam this Sunday 10/17. With SHELLY ELY/vocals and DYLAN LANNY ENGLAND/drummer and  more folks too. They both keep me updated on FACEBOOK. They're  fantastic and both are at Uncle Sam's each Sunday. Wow. Get your axe, go to Uncle Sam's Bar And Grill 7 pm to 10ish on Sundays and have a really good time with other very talented musicians.
